The Guilder Brute Squad is a subsidiary of The Guard, an Aratari unit based mostly on Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels. The Brute Squad, predictably, also borrows heavily from the mythos of The Princess Bride. No matter what we borrow from (it's borrowing, really - not theft at all!), we conduct ourselves with a sense of humor and a friendly demeanor.

The Brute Squad was formed when His Majesty Engelbert the Otherwise Occupied decided that nobody in Guilder could be trusted to enforce the laws and maintain civic security. Through diplomatic channels, he arranged a contract with the Guard to provide police services to Guilder.

Probationary members are formally referred to as recruits, informally as WORST RECRUITS EVER! After a recruit attends a minimum of three costumed events, submits a character biography, and makes their own garb and gear (including a uniform tabard), they are inducted as Guard First Class and issued their badge and gum (there's a small charge for the badge). Ranking after that is based on recruitment. It's like a pyramid scheme with swords.
